Misal Pav is a very healthy and delicious dish from Mumbai Maharastra India. Very popular street food. It is made with sprouts topped with onion, lemon, tomato’s and Farsan or Pharsāṇ (salty snacks from India) bread or rolls.

You can make it for breakfast, as a snack or a meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Sprouts (You can use different sprouts)
  • 3 tbsp oil/butter
  • 2 medium finely chopped Onion
  • 3 small to medium finely chopped Tomato’s
  • 1/8 cups cut Coriander leaves
  • 10-15  curry leaves
  • 1 green chilies (according to taste)
  • 2 red dried chiles
  • 1 tsp finely chopped or grated – Ginger
  • 1 tsp finely chopped- Garlic
  • 1-2  small to medium Potato’s
  • 1/2 cup Peas
  • 1/2 Cup cut Carrots
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp Red chili non spicy (kashmir miriche)
  • 1/2 tsp Red chili spicy
  • 1/4 cup soaked tamrind in water
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro

For making sprouts:

I usually make mix sprouts. Black gram, Matki, and Green gram. Wash and soak separately over night preferably in water and wash it once with fresh water and drain the excess of water. put it in sprout maker or transfer to a clean cotton or muslin cloth and make a tight knot and leave it for over night.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Wash the sprouts and keep for boiling with cubed potatoes, peas and carrot with. It takes 25 minutes for 3 whistles of the pressure cooker in low-medium heat after that switch off the stove.

Step 2

On the other side you can start preparing the curry. Add 3 table of spoon of oil or butter in a pan and put it on medium heat. Add mustard seeds till it crackles then add cumin seeds to the oil after that add red full pepper, curry leaves and saute it. Ater 1-2 minutes, add finely chopped onion sauté them. Cook for 2-3 minutes till little golden brown add green pepper, ginger and garlic.

Step 3

Make the stove at low heat and add the spices turmeric, red chili, Red chili non spicy (kashmir miriche) coriander powder mix well for 1-2 minutes add tomato’s let it cook slowly once nicely cooked add the sprouts in it. Add mango powder and garam masala. Let it slowly cook together for 8-10 minutes. once done add butter and fresh finely chopped coriander leaves.

Step 4

For Topping: Keep in the separate bowl. One finely cut onion. One finely cut tomato’s Coriander finely chopped. Bowl of Farsan (Salty Indian snack) and slices of Lemon.

Step 5

For preparing pav: Add oil/butter  on the pan to toast Pav.
